Work Light
For years we have known and understood that children
coming out of the foster adopt system, especially those from background
of suffering abuse, had extensive areas of mental, emotional and
physical issues to deal with. Some times a student may pass through
the entire foster system having no clear or visible issues of
concern until placed into a position of servitude under a manager
or supervisor in the work place. Then, unfortunately, deep seated
issues may surface once the child perceives that he is being unfairly
subjected by his superiors.
Real or perceived, this can become a very damaging
situation. We have found that children can be further scarred
emotionally as a result. Valued job contracts utilized for placement
of foster children can be soured as a result of irrational behavior,
thus losing valuable positions of service that could help others
transition into life as a working, tax paying, productive member
of society.
Even violence or property damage can result from
these uncontrolled experiences. While we believe all children
essentially want to assimilate to social norms to understand and
work through their personal issues in the work place.
Work Light will serve in that area preciously unserved
in other agencies either because the student was never classified
as handicapped, or the student is no longer in the foster system
because they "aged out" or grew too old for system service
(usually 18). Work Light will secure job positions where staff
can clearly complete the contracted goal but will utilize the
opportunity to place teens in work environments where they can
learn simple trades and benefit from loving, compassionate yet
firm instruction. It will lead them through those hard times ultimately
to be productive in society and have full independence.
Work Light currently holds labor agreements with
housekeeping, landscaping and film productions and is working
to grow into other areas of trainable expertise.
